Pickup trucks are as American as the Constitution itself. They are practical, spacious, and dependable machines that can carry all sorts of luggage and handle nearly any terrain. We even have a segment full of performance trucks!

One of their other facets is that they can also tow some rather hefty payloads—payloads that even an SUV couldn’t manage. This list contains ten trucks with the best towing capacity, with some surprising you just how much they can tow.

RAM 3500

RAM trucks are by far and away some of the best when it comes to towing capacity. Their extensive and brutal size gives that away, and the 3500 Super Duty truck is one of the very best.

Starting at $46,255, the RAM 3500 can tow 37,900 lbs worth behind it. Those are some big numbers, and with 420 horsepower under the hood, there is plenty of grunt to haul around even the heaviest of loads.

Ford F-450 Super Duty

When we think of Ford’s pickup trucks, we tend to think about the Ford F-150 and all its associated variations. However, Ford also produces monsters such as the F-450 Super Duty, a truck purposely designed to haul massive loads and trailers.

Thanks to its 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbocharged diesel, it has the power to do so. With a towing capacity of over 37,000 lbs it needs all the energy it can get to haul those big loads around.

While it lacks the hauling capacity of some of its Super Duty cousins, the Ford F-150 can still haul a good enough load—more than enough for the average owner and user.

The towing capacity naturally can range from year to year, but at its peak, the current F-150 can haul around 13,500 lbs while also carrying 2,445 kg of payload. For most owners, those figures are more than enough for whatever tasks they require their F-150 for.

GMC Sierra 3500 HD

Like Ford and RAM, GMC knows a thing or two about heavy-duty trucks with enormous towing capacities with the Sierra 3500 HD. However, you will have to pay a sizeable amount, with the regular cab and extended bed versions costing $49,495 MSRP.

However, for that money, you get a truck with a massive towing capacity of around 36,000 lbs. That is enough to take on many of its rivals, and the 6.6-liter V8 engine under the hood provides all the power required.

Chevrolet Silverado HD

Not wishing to be outdone by its competitors, Chevrolet’s Silverado also has its Heavy-Duty version. Like its rivals, this truck has an insane towing capacity, and its 6.6-liter V8 and 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel V8 offer the power to do so.

Those engines unlock a staggering 36,000 lbs of towing capacity. An amount that many of us will likely never need. With up to 975 lb-ft of torque from the Silverado HD, it certainly isn’t going to struggle to move it around.

If you want reasonable towing capacity from a Chevrolet pickup truck but don’t need more than 36,000 lbs, you might wish to buy the 2025 Silverado 1500. With a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 lbs, the Silverado 1500 can still hold its own.

That puts it above what the current Ford F-150 can haul. The Silverado 1500 is also more affordable than some other giant trucks, with its starting price of $37,00. Power comes from various engines, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, a pair of V8s, and the Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six.

GMC Hummer EV Pickup Truck

Like it or hate it, the GMC Hummer EV is a monster. Its sheer size is unlike that of many other trucks on the market, and it needs its 1,000 horsepower to move all 10,000 lbs of it around the country.

Even with that weight and size, the Hummer EV can still pull a big load. In fact, it can pull up to 12,000 lbs, which is on par with the Chevrolet Silverado and the Ford F-150 in their ultimate forms. The downsides of the Hummer, though, are its size and weight.

Hyundai Santa Cruz

Not everyone wants a large, Super Duty truck. Some of us want something smaller and more compact, without the size and weight of a Silverado HD. So, if that is what you are after, then the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz might be the truck for you.

The Santa Cruz only has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs, but that’s all it needs, being a smaller truck aimed at a very different audience. The Santa Cruz is also reliable and comfortable and has a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four, which is plenty powerful for daily driving.

Chevrolet Colorado

If you still don’t want a massive pickup truck, but the Hyundai Santa Cruz falls just a bit short, there are mid-size options on the market. Just look at the Chevrolet Colorado, with its 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four under the hood, making 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.

The Colorado’s excellent towing capacity of 7,700 lbs is perfect for a truck of its size, and it offers plenty of power. For many pickup truck owners, the Colorado will provide everything that they need.

Rivian R1T

Electric pickup trucks are slowly catching up in capabilities to what ICE trucks have to offer. The Rivian R1T is one of them, and it should be, too, with 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque provided by its four electric motors.

Thankfully, it has excellent haulage capabilities. The R1T can tow up to 11,000 lbs and carry 1,764 lbs of payload. It’s just a shame that while it can haul a good load, it is a very pricey pickup truck.
