Like them or not, electric vehicles are here to stay. The planet demands that we find greener ways of getting around, and more and more manufacturers have joined the EV race.
While they might not be that exciting to some of us, there are plenty of upcoming and available EVs that defy expectations—EVs with a good turn of speed that are just as fast or faster than internal combustion engine vehicles. Amazingly, some of them are SUVs, too.
This list contains some of those EVs and what makes them so fast. They must go fast when you put your foot down to make this list.
Volvo XC40 Recharge

Volvo has done incredible things with its electric cars over the last few years, and showcasing that to brilliant effect is how fast the $54,000 Volvo XC40 Recharge is. The XC40 is a stylish and sophisticated SUV with a fantastic interior and the expected all-wheel drive system.
Its top speed of 112 mph is quite punchy. But its 0-60 mph time is most impressive, at just 4.7 seconds, thanks to its 402 horsepower powertrain.
2024 GMC Hummer EV

There is a lot to hate about the GMC Hummer EV. It’s a massive SUV weighing over 9,600 lbs, and it’s one of the most oversized electric vehicles currently on sale. Yet, thanks to its mighty 830 horsepower powertrain, it’s also one of the fastest-accelerating.
The Hummer EV can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, which is terrifying for a car that is so heavy. It can also do the 1/4 mile quickly, in just under 12 seconds. In many ways, the Hummer EV’s performance is frightening.
Mercedes EQS SUV

Mercedes are a later entry into the EV race, but they have produced some excellent vehicles in a short space of time. The EQS SUV is one of them, and in EQS 580 4MATIC form, it sits at the top of the tree, even if that is an exceptional mouthful.
The EQS, however, can comfortably carry five passengers while also retaining an option for seven. Power comes from either a single or dual-motor setup, and in total, the EQS can produce 536 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque. It is leading to a top speed of 130 mph.
2023 BMW iX M60

If there is one thing that BMW’s iX isn’t, it is pretty. It is little wonder its designers were criticized for some of their terrible choices, and the iX M60, no matter how fast it is, is still a terrible-looking SUV.
In dual motor form, however, the iX does have 610 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. That is enough to propel it to a 0-60 mph time of just 3.2 seconds, and it can easily hit the 1/4 mile in about 11.5 seconds. The top speed is a very impressive 155 mph.
Faraday Future FF91

The Faraday Future FF91 is very much an unknown in the automotive world. That is because it is Faraday’s first foray into the automotive manufacturing world. Yet, they have produced an impressive-looking all-electric SUV with some of the most sophisticated styling of any on the market.
It is also incredibly powerful. The tri-motor setup sees it produce 1,050 horsepower and a scarcely believable 1,458 lb-ft of torque. The range is also excellent at 381 miles, and 0-60 mph is reached in just 2.39 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.
Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar is another late entry into the electric SUV world. In 2019, the I-Pace won the World Car of the Year award, highlighting its strength. Plus, the I-Pace is an excellent and very elegant-looking vehicle.
The SUV’s power statistics back this up. It has 394 horsepower thanks to its dual-electric motors and 512 lb-ft of torque. The range is solid enough at 246 miles, and the top speed is 124 mph, which is more than any of us will ever do on the highways or interstates.
Tesla Model Y

It was, of course, inevitable that a Tesla would appear on this list at least once. It is no surprise that the Tesla Model Y makes an appearance as one of the most popular electric vehicles currently on sale while also being one of the fastest to grace public roads.
The Tesla Model Y is available in dual-motor form and can produce from 295 to 384 horsepower. Torque is also impressive, with its range from 310 to 376 lb-ft, and the EV can run at a top speed of 155 mph. The maximum range of the Tesla Model Y is 310 miles, meaning that range anxiety should become a thing of the past.
Genesis Electrified GV70

Genesis is still relatively new to the electric vehicle game and, indeed, to the electric vehicle game in general. However, Hyundai’s luxury division is starting to make a name for itself, and it’s proven that it can produce quite a rapid SUV, as shown by the Electrified GV70.
Sitting under the hood of the GV70 Electrified is a dual-motor setup, producing 428 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. The range is 236 miles, and that dual-motor powertrain propels the GV70 to a top speed of 151 mph. It has some rapid acceleration, too, and is able to reach 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.
Lotus Eletre R

There is still some debate as to whether the Lotus Eletre is a genuine Lotus. It goes against the lightweight philosophy that founder Colin Chapman made the company famous for, but there is no denying that the Eletre is an impressive vehicle. But whether it is worthy of the Lotus name isn’t something that can be quickly answered.
In regular form, the Eletre is very powerful. But as the sportier Eletre R, it is even more outlandish. Power comes from a dual-motor setup, delivering 905 horsepower and 726 lb-ft of torque. This propels the Eletre R to an impressive top speed of 165 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 2.95 seconds.
Kia EV6 GT

The Kia EV6 is undoubtedly one of the best-looking electric SUVs currently on sale. It rides on the excellent Hyundai E-GMP platform, which means it looks good and is very efficient. In EV6 GT form, the Kia electric SUV is also incredibly rapid.
The EV6 GT has a dual-motor setup, allowing it to produce 576 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. Its range is around 206 miles, and the top speed is incredibly impressive at 161 mph. Kia recently revamped the EV6 for the 2025 model year, somehow making the car look even better.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

If you thought the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was good as standard, then you need to check out the Ioniq 5 N. This is the sportier, hot-hatchback version of Hyundai’s EV, which has gained extra power and a few sporty touches to its exterior design.
Power is rated at 601 horsepower, but thanks to the N Grin Boost mode, it can be boosted up to 641 horsepower in a short period. Torque is 568 lb-ft, and while the extra performance does come at the cost of some mileage, the batteries in the Ioniq 5 N are still good enough to take it 221 miles.
Rivian R1S

Rivian is a relatively new EV manufacturer, but it has already established a name for itself with its two current products: the R1T pickup truck and, of course, the R1S, an incredible-looking SUV. Rivian has ensured that power and speed are at the heart of the R1S, and its quad-motor powertrain can produce 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque.
Those are some big numbers. The range is also exceptional at 321 miles, while the 0-60 mph time is just 3.0 seconds. The top speed is right at 125 mph. However, the R1S’s weight holds it back from going as fast as some other vehicles on this list.
Tesla Model X Plaid

We could not leave the Tesla Model X Plaid off this list. Whenever people think of fast, electric SUVs, the Model X Plaid is highly likely to come to mind. It is an absolute monster, with its tri-motor setup producing a biblical 1,020 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque.
The 0-60 mph time is 2.5 seconds, which is in supercar territory, and the top speed is 163 mph. While not as fast as the Eletre R, it is the acceleration that allows it to really stand out. The range is also excellent, with the Model X Plaid able to go 326 miles on a full charge.
